This self-build ICF home designed by award winning Architect and experienced Wallform designer Nigel Johnston has just been shortlisted for the Build It Awards 2019 in the Best Self Build for under £250K category.
Constructed using Wallform 313 the home has been expertly designed to maximise the potential of ICF and a somewhat unusually shaped building plot. The angular boundaries of the site are mirrored by the structure to enhance internal space, making full use of the flexibility provided by building with an ICF system such as Wallform.
The home also benefits from a first floor level terrace area which cleverly hides the main road from sight.
A crisp, white polymer render has been applied direct to the Wallform system to clad the exterior, with a fully glazed front facing gable to maximise natural light into the interior and give further great views of the sea.
The view across the busy harbour to the Isle of Skye, with the jagged outline of the Cullin mountains in the background, is framed by incredible light from an ever-changing sky.
The Energy Performance Certificate for the home scored the structure 5 out of 5 for its thermal insulation performance, and suggested the only further improvements possible would be to add a wind turbine and solar panels!
