Great News for Self Build and Custom Housebuilders

The passing of the Self Build and Custom Housebuilding Act on 4th February is great news for all those looking to build their own home.

From 1st April 2016, when the Act comes into effect, all councils will be obliged to keep a register of aspiring self-build and custom housebuilders when planning for future housing and land use.

More and more people want to build their own home and the Act will help unlock massive potential within the self-build and custom build industry, helping to meet the country’s future housing needs.

Richard Bacon MP, who has steered this Act all the way through the House of Commons, foresees a revolution in new housing when the Act is “combined with the provisions in the new housing and planning bill, which will require local councils to make serviced plots available commensurate with the number of people on their registers”.
