Lower Cottage Farm – Shortlisted!

Lower Cottage Farm – Shortlisted!

We are delighted to announce that Lower Cottage Farm has been shortlisted in the 2016 Build It Awards!

This stunning home (featured in this months Homebuilding & Renovating magazine) is built on an isolated hillside location in Lancashire. The old farm cottage was replaced by a modern, state-of-the-art family home, designed to resemble a farmhouse and barn conversions.

Three distinct structures were created – a smaller, rendered house block, a larger barn clad in Lakeland slate and, connecting the two, a stunning frameless glazed structure. Each section is unique yet they blend effortlessly together.

Local Architect, Peter Bamber, designed an energy efficient home which reflected the previous stone clad buildings and open barns, and used traditional and local materials to blend with the landscape.

The solid construction of BecoWallform ensures high levels of thermal insulation and a more even temperature throughout the house.

The combination of a ground source heat pump and recovery heating system add to the long term sustainability of the home.

Natural materials continue internally where slate wall tiling was selected for the double height glazed entrance, and walnut treads for the staircase in the barn wing.

A large, open plan kitchen/dining/living room on the ground floor of the barn provides a sociable family area.

Peter Bamber has successfully created an outstanding design which all the family are thrilled with, and one that is both visually impressive yet ‘homely’.
