Detached Dwelling at Borve, South Uist

On the western side of the Isle of Barra, amidst fields of sheep, construction of a new dwelling at Borve is well underway.

We are sure this will be another very slick production from the experienced ‘Wallformers’ at Coastal Homes!

Timber shuttering has been put into place following the outline of what will be the external Wallform shell.

Unusually, mesh reinforcing has been inserted into the footings to give added strength to the concrete. This is due to local conditions and not because of the Wallform system, which normally utilises the same foundation design that would be used for traditional construction.

Once cast, the concrete provides a level foundation onto which the BecoWallform shell can then be quickly built.

With the substructure walls completed, two levels of floor insulation are laid with staggered joints to prevent thermal bridging.

The concrete slab has been laid over the insulation, providing a working platform for the main Wallform construction.
